Due to the popularity of the original series, a second version also by Studio BONES aired from Apto July 4, 2010, which instead followed the story of the manga rather than the original show. A movie based on the original series was also created, titled FullMetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shambala, which followed on from the ending of the show. ![]() As well as this, the dubbed version of the show is widely considered to be one of the few dubs which is superior to the original Japanese, as well as bringing popularity to the voice actor Vic Mignogna. The anime adaptation received mass critical acclaim, spawning a large fandom both in Japan and in America. As well as the manga series, an anime series directed by Studio BONES also aired from Octoto October 2, 2004, which followed an original story separate to the manga. The series follows the adventures of Edward and Alphonse Elric who, after losing their bodies trying to resurrect their dead mother using the science of Alchemy, go in search of a Philosopher's Stone, in order to restore their bodies. Their quest, to find a philosopher’s stone to restore their bodies. ![]() Since I have only seen Brotherhood, this is the one I will be discussing today.Įvery anime fan knows the story, the country of Amestris and its terrible plague, of how the Elric brothers, Edward (Ed) and Alphonse (Al) tried to use their father’s alchemy tomes to resurrect their mother, and the terrible consequences (Edward loses two limbs, Alphonse becomes a discorporate spirit). Predictably, fandom is divided among those who love the original and hate Brotherhood (like my friend Eric) and vice versa. Meanwhile, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009) followed the manga almost completely. The first one, simply titled Full Metal Alchemist (2003), only copied the first story arc from the manga and then told its own story since the manga was still in publication. Unsurprisingly, there have been two anime adaptations. The manga (27 volumes) started by Hiromu Arakawa is a true modern classic. The Elric brothers have thousands of fans around the world.
